Mastercard SecureCode Personal Credit Card FAQs
-
What is Mastercard SecureCode?
Mastercard SecureCode protects your credit card against unauthorised use when you shop online at participating retailers.
-
How do I identify a participating retailer?
You’ll see this logo on the participating retailer’s website:
-
How much does it cost to use the Mastercard?
It’s free to use the Mastercard SecureCode service.
-
Do I need to register my credit card for the Mastercard service?
No, all cards are automatically registered for the service. All you need to do is make sure your mobile number is registered with us, because we may send you a one time passcode (OTP) to complete the online transaction.
-
What if I have an authorised user on my credit card?
The authorised user must also register their mobile number with us to use the Mastercard SecureCode service.
-
What is an OTP?
OTP is a 'one time passcode'. It’s a random number we send to your mobile number registered with us. When you enter it, it allows the Bank to identify you and ensures that a greater level of security is applied to your transaction.
-
How does it work?
When you use your card online with a retailer who uses the Mastercard SecureCode service, a Mastercard SecureCode screen will appear, if authentication is required. You will be asked for the last four digits of your mobile number. Then another screen will appear asking you to enter the OTP we sent to you by text message. This confirms your identity. When the transaction goes ahead you are accepting our Mastercard SecureCode Terms and Conditions.
-
How will I know the text is from Allied Irish Bank (GB)?
The sender ID on the text message from Allied Irish Bank (GB) will be AIB GB. We will not ask you for account numbers or PIN numbers. We will only provide the OTP in the text message. We will not request you to respond to the text message.
-
What will the text say?
Here is a sample of the text we may send you. It will not identify you or your card:
AIB GB: For your Mastercard SecureCode transaction at Amazon Digital for GBP 000000000, please use this One Time Code; 12345678 within five minutes. Thank you.
-
How long is the OTP valid for?
It’s temporary and designed to be used for one transaction and lasts for five minutes.
-
What if I do not receive my OTP within 5 minutes?
If you do not receive your OTP within five minutes, click on the 'Send new one time passcode' link on the Mastercard SecureCode screen and a new OTP will be sent.
-
What if I do not receive my OTP after clicking on the 'Send new one time passcode' link?
